Shireen Kandiah

Shireen spearheads the Institute’s thought leadership initiatives and research publications, as well as its strategic partnership and communication initiatives.

Her professional experience spans CRM Strategy, Branding and Capital Markets. Prior to joining AICB, Shireen worked in Securities Commission Malaysia (SC) in the areas of international regulatory standards and capacity building. She has also worked in international advertising agencies and business conglomerates based in Kuala Lumpur and Dubai.

Shireen graduated from the University of Kent, UK with a LL.B. (Hons) in Law.

Tan Sri Azman Hashim, FCB

Tan Sri Azman Hashim has been in the banking industry since 1960 when he joined Bank Negara Malaysia. He practised as a Chartered Accountant in Azman Wong Salleh and Co. from 1964 to 1971. He was on the board of Malayan Banking Berhad from 1966 to 1980 and was its Executive Director from 1971 until 1980. He was the Executive Chairman of Kwong Yik Bank Berhad, a subsidiary of Malayan Banking Berhad, from 1980 until 1982 when he acquired AmInvestment Bank Berhad.

Tan Sri Azman is Chairman of the Asian Institute of Finance Berhad, Asian Institute of Chartered Bankers, Asian Banking School Sdn Bhd, Malaysian Investment Banking Association, the Malaysia Productivity Corporation, Malaysia South-South Corporation Berhad and Chairman Emeritus of Pacific Basin Economic Council (PBEC).

He is the President of Malaysia South-South Association, Malaysia-Japan Economic Association, Malaysian Prison FRIENDS Club and a Member of the APEC Business Advisory Council and East Asia Business Council. He is also the Leader of the ASEAN Japanese Business Meeting (Malaysia Committee, Keizai Doyukai). He is the Pro-Chancellor of Open University of Malaysia and a member of the Governing Body of Asian Productivity Organisation.

Tan Sri Azman is also involved in several charitable organisations as Chairman and Trustee of AmGroup Foundation and Perdana Leadership Foundation and Trustee for Yayasan Azman Hashim, Malaysian Liver Foundation, Yayasan Tuanku Najihah and Yayasan Canselor Open University Malaysia. Tan Sri Azman is also the Founder and Council Member of Azman Hashim Family (L) Foundation and Azman Hashim Charitable (L) Foundation.

Director & Co-founder, Global Ethical Finance Initiative

Omar Shaikh

Omar is the Managing Director of the Global Ethical Finance Initiative (GEFI). A Chartered Accountant by profession, he specialises in ethical finance, Islamic finance and private equity. He has extensive experience in financial services, has advised multiple governments on their capital markets, banking, pension and insurance regulation and is a regular speaker at ethical finance conference and events. Omar’s background includes working with EY where he was a Subject Matter Expert for Islamic finance.

Through his work at developmental body UKIFC, Omar launched the award winning Edinburgh Ethical Finance Round Table series, a platform that led to the inception of the Ethical Finance Hub and GEFI. Since 2018, GEFI has convened and connected stakeholders from across finance, government, business and the third sector to promote finance for positive change. As well as further building the Ethical Finance Round Table series, GEFI has established a number of events and campaigns, including the Ethical Finance Summit (a major conference), the Finance for Nature Series with UNEP and UNDP, the interfaith Edinburgh Finance Declaration, the unique Radical Old Idea platform and the Path to COP26 campaign, bringing together stakeholders to advance climate finance ahead of the crucial 2021 Glasgow summit.

Cecile Thioro Niang

Ms. Niang, a dual Senegalese and French national, is the Practice Manager for East Asia and Pacific, covering Pacific Islands, Indonesia/Timor and Philippines, Thailand and Malaysia for the Finance, Competitiveness & Innovation Global Practice at the World Bank Group. Since joining the Bank in 2004, she has held various positions working on long term infrastructure finance, climate finance, financial inclusion; firm capabilities and innovation; markets and technology; investment and competition, telecoms and digital development, with her most recent assignment being Lead Economist in the LAC Finance Competitiveness and Innovation team.

Niang’s prior positions at the World Bank Group before assuming her current position spent 6 years in the Latin America & the Caribbean region, as Lead Economist in Finance, Competitiveness & Innovation Global Practice and as Program Leader for the Caribbean countries. She held Country Sector Coordinator and Senior Economist positions in the World Bank’s Finance and Private Sector Development department, in South Asia and Africa.

Prior to joining the World Bank Group, Cecile was an Associate Manager, Business Development at France Telecom North America and a Director, Corporate Development at Juno Online, a US Internet Service Provider. Cecile holds graduate degrees in economics, business administration and information Systems from Columbia University, Paris Dauphine and Telecom Ecole de Management.

Datuk Yvonne Chia is a senior Fellow Chartered Banker, Mentor and Transformational Leader. She has more than 40 years experience in the financial services industry, having held leading positions in both foreign and local institutions. She started her career in Bank of America and held various roles in Malaysia and Asia region. She was the former Group Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of RHB Bank Berhad from 1996 to 2002 and Hong Leong Bank Berhad from 2003 to 2013. She is a Council Member of the Asian Institute of Chartered Bankers, the Trustee for Teach For Malaysia Foundation and The Merdeka Awards Trust respectively, and an Honorary Professor of the University of Nottingham School of Economics.

Natalie Jackson

Natalie has over 10 years of experience working in finance and is passionate about how finance can be used to deliver social and environmental impact. Her career started at EY in 2010, in the corporate finance department, where she qualified as at Chartered Accountant. She has spent extended periods of time working with social enterprises in Africa and has assisted entrepreneurs in the Global South through the Grow Movement and Kiva. Natalie was one of the finalists in the One Young CA competition and nominated as one of ICAS’s top Accountants under 35 in the field of Sustainability & Corporate Responsibility. She has spent the last 6 years working in project finance with a focus on education, infrastructure and renewable energy projects. Natalie currently sits on the Social Growth Fund Board at Social Investment Scotland, advising on the disbursement of £17m of funding to Scottish Social Enterprises.

Keith Lee

Keith Lee is a Senior Analyst at CICERO Shades of Green, where he works on second party opinions for green and sustainability-linked bond issuances, as well as other sustainability assessments, research, and methodology development. He has over 10 years of experience in sustainability and finance across academia, NGO and private sector settings. Prior to joining CICERO Shades of Green, Keith co-led the Asia Sustainable Finance team at the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF), where he conducted research and engaged with financial institutions and regulators in Asian markets including Singapore, Malaysia, Japan and South Korea to accelerate the uptake of sustainable finance best practice. He started his career in investment banking and holds a PhD in City and Regional Planning from the University of California, Berkeley. He also has a Master of Environmental Management from Yale University and a Bachelor of Economics from the University of Chicago.

Eric Lim

Mr Eric Lim is the Chief Sustainability Officer at UOB. He leads a dedicated
corporate sustainability office that is focused on achieving the Bank’s sustainability objectives of helping businesses to advance responsibly, steering consumer wealth to sustainable investments and fostering social inclusiveness and environmental well-being.

Concurrently, Eric is also the Head of Group Finance, where he is responsible for the Bank’s core finance functions spanning financial strategy, capital management, regulatory and financial reporting, tax management, business finance and performance management.

Eric holds positions in other key UOB management committees, including
Chairperson of the Group Sustainability Committee. He is also a member of the Asset and Liability Committee and the Management Committee, and holds directorships in UOB affiliated companies.

Prior to joining UOB, Eric was Managing Director and Head of Wholesale Banking Finance, Singapore and Southeast Asia for Standard Chartered Bank, responsible for driving the strategic partnership between the wholesale business and finance teams. During this time, Eric was responsible for the finance functions covering commercial banking, financial markets and investment banking.

Eric began his career with GE Capital where he took on various executive positions in the areas of financial planning and analysis, mergers and acquisitions, audit and controllership. He lived and worked in more than 20 countries, with particular focus in the USA and Japan during that time.
Eric holds a Bachelor of Accountancy from the Nanyang Technological University and an Executive Master of Business Administration from the Kellogg School of Management, Northwestern University.

Dr Theresa Mundita Lim

Dr. Theresa Mundita S. Lim is the current Executive Director of the ASEAN Centre for Biodiversity (ACB) where she leads the Centre in facilitating regional cooperation and coordination on biodiversity conservation for it to be sustainably managed and used, and equitably shared for the well-being of people.

Some of her notable international roles in the conservation sector were as the Chair of the Convention on Biological Diversity Subsidiary Body on Scientific, Technical and Technological Advice (CBD-SBSTTA) from 2017 to 2018, Chair of the 15th and 18th Meetings of the ASEAN Working Group Meeting on Coastal and Marine Environment (AWGCME) in 2014 and 2017, Chairperson of the 4th ASEAN Experts Group (AEG) on the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Flora and Fauna (CITES) Meeting in 2006, and Chairperson of the 16th ASEAN Working Group on Nature Conservation and Biodiversity (AWGNCB), also in 2006.

Her core competencies and extensive experience and expertise are in local, regional, and international governance, management, policy development, implementation, and innovation, partnership-building, science and policy linkages, and advocacy in the fields of biodiversity conservation and wildlife protection.

Jean-Marc Champagne

Jean-Marc is the head of Bankable Nature Solutions for the Asia-Pacific region, which originates and develops scalable bankable projects with positive environmental and social impact. This includes overseeing project work in the region for the Dutch Fund for Climate and Development and leading finance and bankable projects for WWF’s global Freshwater Practice.

He co-established the Climate Impact Asia Fund, a long-only equity fund, and sits on its investment advisory committee.  Jean-Marc also advises institutional investors, lenders, and underwriters on the financial and economic risks and opportunities related to climate change and environmental issues.

Prior to WWF, he spent 17 years in the financial industry advising institutional investors on equities and equity derivatives. He started his investment banking career in 1997 with Merrill Lynch in New York City and has been based in Hong Kong since 2004, working for BNP Paribas and Jefferies. He graduated from Clarkson University in Potsdam, New York.

Zakiah is the Head of Sustainability and Strategic Management of SME Bank Malaysia (SME Bank), a leading Development Financial Institution (DFI), wholly owned by the Ministry of Finance and supervised by the Ministry of Entrepreneur Development & Cooperatives of Malaysia.

Under Zakiah’s stewardship in SME Bank’s sustainability journey, the Bank has become the first DFI in the country to issue its RM500 million Sustainability Sukuk to meet its funding and working capital requirements in August last year. Following the successful issuance of the Sukuk, the Bank has been honoured with various prestigious awards; amongst others, the “Best ASEAN Green SRI Sukuk” from Alpha South East Asia, the “Best Sustainability Sukuk for 2021” from The Asset Triple A and “SRI & ESG Deal of the Year Awards” from Islamic Finance News.

Zakiah has more than 20 years of experience in the banking industry covering a wide range of financial services during her tenure with a development bank (present), commercial banks and investment banks.

Graduated with a Bachelor of Accountancy from Universiti Utara Malaysia, she is also a Certified Credit Professional by the Institute of Bankers Malaysia (IBBM) as well as a registered Capital Market Services Representative License (CMSRL) holder with Securities Commission, Malaysia back in 2007, when the Capital Markets and Services Act 2007 was initially introduced in Malaysia.

Presently, she is a member of the Joint Committee on Climate Change (JC3) Sub-Committee 4 (JC3SC4). JC3 is led by Bank Negara Malaysia and Securities Commission Malaysia, established in September 2019 to pursue collaborative actions for building climate resilience within the financial sector.

JC3SC4 in collaboration with The Association of Southeast Asian Nations Low Carbon Energy Program (ASEAN LCEP) has conducted a workshop titled “The Power of ESG Data” on 19 May 2022, of which, SME Bank was the Organisation In Charge of the program, and led by Zakiah.

The Workshop which received more than 1000 registered participants locally and abroad, resonates well with our today’s topic, ESG Data.

Dr Alexis Moyer

Dr Moyer is the Head of ESG & Spatial Finance at Edinburgh-based Space Intelligence, a climate-tech start-up supplying consistent, timely and accurate information to support nature-based solutions and sustainability-linked finance. Alexis has a PhD in Environmental Sciences from the University of Edinburgh, where she used satellite data to explore the impact of climate change on the world’s polar regions.
At Space Intelligence, Alexis leads research and product development for sustainable finance, using space data to provide insight for nature-positive financial decision-making, sustainability-linked financial products and ESG reporting. She has expertise in combining remotely-sensed and field-based data to provide solutions to complex environmental sciences research questions. Previously, she worked as a hydrologist for an environmental consultancy in Edinburgh.

Rafe Haneef is the CEO of Group Transaction Banking at CIMB, overseeing transaction banking business which consist of four main product pillars namely Trade Finance, Cash Management, Securities Services and Financial Institution serving the Group’s Non Retail customers across CIMB franchise in ASEAN. Prior to that, he served as CEO of CIMB Islamic Bank Berhad in charge of the Group’s Islamic banking and finance franchise. CIMB Islamic operates as a parallel franchise to the Group’s conventional operations and covers Islamic wholesale banking, Islamic consumer banking, Islamic commercial banking and Islamic asset management and investment

He was instrumental in the inclusion of CIMB Islamic in the Value-based Intermediation (VBI) Community of Practitioners, working to develop VBI together with the central bank to contextualise and drive sustainability with Islamic finance institutions in Malaysia, as well as CIMB Group being a member of RFI as well as a founding member to the UNEP FI Principles for Responsible Banking.

20 years of experience covering a range of businesses and functional roles gained from three global banks, an international asset management company and a legal firm, at various financial centres including London, Dubai and Kuala Lumpur, including as CEO, Malaysia, and Managing Director of Global Markets, ASP, HSBC Amanah in 2010, Regional Head for Islamic banking, Asia Pacific, Citigroup Asia in 2006, Global Head of Islamic Finance business at ABN AMRO Dubai in 2004 covering both consumer and corporate businesses. He joined HSBC Investment Bank plc, London in 1999 and thereafter HSBC Financial Services Middle East, Dubai where he set up the global sukuk business in 2001.

Mahmoud Mohieldin

Dr. Mohieldin, is an economist with more than 30 years of experience in international finance and development. He is the UN Climate Change High-Level Champion for Egypt. He is an Executive Director at the International Monetary Fund. He has been the United Nations Special Envoy on Financing the 2030 Sustainable Development Agenda since February 2020.
He was Minister of Investment of Egypt from 2004-2010, and most recently, served as the World Bank Group Senior Vice President for the 2030 Development Agenda, United Nations Relations and Partnerships. His roles at the World Bank also included Managing Director, responsible for Human Development, Sustainable Development, Poverty Reduction and Economic Management, Finance and Private Sector Development, and the World Bank Institute; World Bank President’s Special Envoy on the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), the Post-2015 Development Agenda (later, the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)), and Financing for Development; and Corporate Secretary and Executive Secretary to the Development Committee of the World Bank Group’s Board of Governors.
Mr. Mohieldin also served on several Boards of Directors in the Central Bank of Egypt and the corporate sector. He was a member of the Commission on Growth and Development and selected a Young Global Leader of the World Economic Forum in 2005. His professional experience extends into the academic arena as a Professor of Economics and Finance at the Faculty of Economics and Political Science, Cairo University and as a Visiting Professor at several renowned Universities in Egypt, Korea, the UAE, the UK and the USA. He is a member of the International Advisory Board of Durham University Business School. He also holds leading positions in national, regional and international research centers and associations.
Mr. Mohieldin holds a Ph.D. in Economics from the University of Warwick, United Kingdom; a Master’s in Economics and Social Policy Analysis from the University of York, United Kingdom; a Diploma of Development Economics from the University of Warwick; and a B.Sc. in Economics from Cairo University. He also participated in executive programs at Wharton Business School of the University of Pennsylvania, the MIT and Georgetown University. In 2018, the American University in Cairo conferred upon him the honorary degree of doctor of Humane Letters “in recognition of renowned attainments and achievements”.
